About the Author
So, a little about me. I was born in 1968 and grew up in true Gen X fashion, riding the bus home from school and letting myself into the house—a latchkey kid. I wouldn’t change it for anything. My brother, my friends, and I would spend our evenings after school and weekends outdoors, only coming home when driven there by hunger or darkness. Summers were endless adventures spent playing in the creek, fishing for crawdads with bacon snuck from the fridge, or “bending trees,” which is what we called climbing thin saplings to the top and riding them to the ground as they bent under our weight. Yes, my mom would have killed us if she had known.
I have always had creative outlets. Early on, it was dismantling bicycles and go-karts to see who could create the craziest contraption that would actually work. Later, I taught myself woodworking and then learned how to weld in my high school Ag class. Much later, when I was in my forties, I took up oil painting and discovered that I had a real passion for art. Desiring to become a better painter and expand my knowledge of art history, I returned to school and earned a degree in Interdisciplinary Art and Design Studies, with an emphasis on painting and 19th-century French art.
I am new to writing, but fortunately, I had a mother who introduced my siblings and me to the wonders of reading at a young age, so I have always enjoyed escaping into the world of a good book. I began to consider writing a novel after art school, but could never find the time. Rather, I should probably say, never made the time. I had a loose concept of the plot for years, but during the isolation of COVID, I began taking several walks a day and used the time to develop the plot further. It was another year and a half before I finally started writing.
Over the last few years, I have worked on my manuscript, including making several trips to New York, the primary setting in my novel, for research. After writing the initial draft, I hired an experienced editor and spent the last year going through, and hopefully, growing through the editing process. I have begun submitting my manuscript to literary agents and hope to publish my first novel, Children of the Sun, soon.
I live in Fort Worth, Texas, with my wonderful partner, who has been patient and supportive of me trying to fulfill this dream. I have a full-time job, so this novel was written in my free time, which would have usually been spent with my family. I am blessed with a large extended family, three daughters, two stepdaughters, and two grandchildren who all support this endeavor. Thank you for visiting my site. Your support is genuinely appreciated!
