Description of Villa Torre Galli: The Loggia

This is a master copy of John Singer Sargent’s “Villa Torre Galli: The Loggia. Sargent is my favorite painter and I have copied many of his works to learn from him. He is considered the premier portrait artist of his time, painting everything from US Presidents to European Royalty. He painted this one in 1910 at a villa outside of Florence. The four people in this scene are companions of Sargents that occompanied him on a sketching tour in Italy. The woman in the foreground is the wife of the painter underneath the statue of Venus, and the other two are also husband and wife. The two seated artists are painting each other, both being painted by Sargent. There is a Cheshire cat resting on the bench in the front left of the composition. The original is in the Art Institute of Chicago. Oil on Canvas. 24 x 30 inches.
